International Scholar Award Program
The International Assembly for Pediatric Anesthesia (IAPA) is pleased to announce that a travel scholarship award program has been developed to support selected meeting registrants from developing countries. Each scholarship award will cover $2,500 (US) in travel expenses.
Scholarship applicant must be:
- from a developing country as recognized by the WHO
- preference for those within 10 years of completing training
- engaged in teaching and training of anesthesiology providers who spend a significant portion of their practice caring for children
- submitting a poster or presentation to the International Assembly
In addition to the scholarship award, the selected International Scholars will receive:
- Complimentary registration for the International Assembly for Pediatric Anesthesia
- Complimentary registration for the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Annual Meeting
- Invitation to the IAPA Faculty/VIP dinner - Thursday, October 11, 2012
- Reception at the National Zoo - Friday, October 12, 2012
Time commitment: International Scholars must be able to attend the entire IAPA program and related activities. Scholars are also strongly encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) immediately following the IAPA meeting in Washington, DC.
International Scholars may also benefit by spending time at a major U.S. hospital with a Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) member as your host, prior to or following the IAPA and ASA meetings.
Travel documents: SPA will provide a letters for all scholars indicating they have received a travel scholarship for the IAPA. The letters can be used to support visa application. Scholars are responsible for obtaining all necessary passports and visas for travel to the United States.
Scholars will also be expected to submit a report for publication at the conclusion of the travel scholar program describing their experience. This must be done no later than two (2) weeks after the International Assembly for Pediatric Anesthesia.

Hosting an International Scholar
Are you interested in hosting an International Scholar at your institution?
International Scholar program sponsors are encouraged to host an International Scholar at their institution immediately prior to or following the International Assembly for Pediatric Anesthesia (IAPA).
Additional U.S. host institutions are also needed for those scholars being sponsored by International organizations and institutions. The host institution would be responsible for the scholar's expenses for the duration of the stay at their center.
